Around one billion meticais is the amount needed to build more than 100 water supply boreholes in all the districts of Manica province next year.
The news was announced by the provincial director of Public Works and Water Resources in Manica, Flávio Manuel, quoted by the Profile news portal.
According to the source, the initiative will provide drinking water to more than 100,000 inhabitants. There are also plans to build 24 drinking water supply systems and rehabilitate 300 boreholes. This is part of the National Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Program (PRONASAR).
Flávio Manuel also revealed that there is a specific intervention plan for the semi-arid regions:
"We've identified boreholes with very good flow rates, above 3 cubic meters, even with a view to keeping some equipment there to remove salt from the water," said the director.
With the commissioning of the 200 boreholes and 24 supply systems, Manica will be able to continue with a supply rate of the precious liquid of around 78%.
