One person lost their life on Saturday afternoon (09) following clashes between the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) and residents of the Matsinho administrative post, in the district of Vanduzi, in Manica province.
The fact was revealed this Sunday (10) by the PRM spokesman in Manica, Mateus Mindu, stressing that the deadly victim, whose identity has not been revealed, was hit by a bullet during the clashes.
According to the PRM spokesman, quoted by AIMThe violence was caused by a group of people demanding the release of two people arrested by the police.
"The population wanted to lynch two individuals who are in police custody on charges of murdering a motorcycle taxi driver and stealing his motorcycle. However, in order to demand the release of these individuals, the population started throwing stones at the police station," explained the spokesperson.
In response, the police fired shots into the air to disperse the crowd that was threatening to storm the police unit in Matsinho.
"During the clashes, a citizen was hit by a bullet and lost his life. The corporation's aim was to protect the two individuals arrested so that they can be held accountable for the crime of which they are accused. In no way can we allow the population to take the life of a citizen," said Mateus Mindu.
Following the riots, the Police of the Republic of Mozambique made arrests in order to hold all the individuals responsible for leading the confusion.
