The national soccer team, known as the "Mambas", could hold a 12-day pre-competition training camp in Marrakech with a view to taking part in the final phase of the African Nations Championship in Morocco 2025 next December.
The information was provided by the president of the Mozambican Football Federation, Feizal Sidat, during an interview he gave to the newspaper Esférico.
With about six months to go until the start of Africa's biggest soccer competition, the Mozambican Football Federation is already preparing for the Mambas' participation in the final phase of the CAN in Morocco, in what will be their second consecutive participation and their sixth in history.
For Sidat, the training camp would help the national team adapt to the Moroccan temperatures in a very cold season. "We plan to be in Morocco 12 days before the African Nations Championship kicks off, so that we can do a pre-competition training camp. It's very cold there in December and January, and we believe that this period could help the national team adapt," Feizal Sidat told Esférico.
The planned training camp in Morocco is part of the existing relations between the two countries' soccer federations, taking into account the visits that the Casa do Futebol helmsman made last year.
If this training camp takes place, the national soccer championship, Moçambola, should end earlier, in November, so that the national coach can make his choices for the squad and thus be part of the training camp in Morocco, at a time when the players who play in Europe could arrive later due to their commitments to their clubs.
Another aspect related to the training camp in Morocco is the fact that the national team will be able to play control games with other teams qualified for the CAN, as happened in 2023 when they were preparing for the competition in Ivory Coast, or even with local teams that are known for their good performance and performance in continental competitions, with a history of conquests, which would be of added value to the national coach.
Also during the interview with the newspaper, Feizal Sidat spoke about the possible nationalization of players who play in Europe to become part of the Mambas' roster, namely Diogo Calila, a player from Santa Clara, and Rúben Lameiras, a striker from Al-Sailiya in Qatar, but trained at Tottenham in England.
Sidat assured that both processes are almost complete.
For the time being, the Mozambican Football Federation's biggest focus for the Mambas is the World Cup qualifying matches, already on the FIFA dates of August and September, where they will host Botswana and visit Uganda.
They could be part of the national team's preparation for the final phase of the African Nations Championship, which will take place in Morocco from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026.
It should be noted that Mozambique will be in group F of the final phase, along with Ivory Coast, the defending champion, Cameroon and Gabon.
