"Mambas qualify for CAN Morocco 2025

“Mambas” apurados ao CAN Marrocos 2025

Last night, the national soccer team secured qualification for the African Nations Championship (CAN) after beating their Guinea-Bissau counterparts 2-1 at the 24 de Setembro Stadium in Bissau.

It is an unprecedented achievement for the country, with the "Mambas" qualifying for the biggest soccer competition on the African continent twice in a row, following the CANs of 1996 and 1998.

The first goal for the "Mambas" was scored by Bruno Langa, in the 9th minute, after a "bomb" from the middle of the road. However, the Djurtus equalized in the 42nd minute through Beto.

The teams went into the break tied (1-1). With this result, Mozambique had already secured qualification.

In the first minutes of the second half, the "Mambas" scored again through Ratifo's header from a corner kick.

With this result, Mozambique finishes the group stage in second place with 11 points, three less than Mali, who beat Eswatini (6-0) in the other match of the same series. Guinea-Bissau and Eswatini finished on five and two points respectively.

With this victory, Mozambique qualified for the sixth time for the CAN, which will be hosted by Morocco in 2025, after having taken part in 1986 (Egypt), 1996 (South Africa), 1998 (Burkina Faso), 2010 (Angola) and 2023 (Ivory Coast).
