Last Thursday (08), Malawi inaugurated the International Cancer Treatment Center, one of the largest hospital developments in southern Africa with technologically advanced diagnostic and radiation services.
With an investment of 6.5 million euros, the International Blantyre Cancer Center, inaugurated by the President of Malawi, Lazarus Chakwera, is privately owned by the Thomson and Barbara Mpinganjira Foundation and the OMCC Group of Luxembourg.
According to a Radio MozambiqueThe state-of-the-art cancer center gives hope to thousands of Malawians and people from neighboring countries who, for years, have had to travel to India to access advanced cancer treatments.
For Lazarus Chakwera, with the opening of this international center, his dream of the country starting treatment for the disease has been achieved.
"The fight against cancer can never be won if all responsibility is left in the hands of the government, at a time when Malawi registers at least 17,000 cases of the disease every year, of which 12,000 lose their lives," said the Malawian President, stressing that through the National Cancer Control Plan, the government is finalizing the construction of another National Cancer Centre in the city of Lilongwe, to ensure that all Malawians suffering from the disease are not dependent on foreign hospitals.
