Manica province has already registered 144 cases of death by suicide between last year and this year, Flávia Faduco, from the province's Mental Health Program, said on Friday.
Last year the province recorded 349 cases of attempted suicide and 67 deaths. This year there have already been 259 cases of attempted suicide and 77 deaths.
“Suicide is the second leading cause of death here in the province. For this year, the data we have is on gambling, not to mention other issues that we can observe in schools, such as bullying and various situations that we can encounter,” said Selma Rodrigues, a psychologist.
The information was shared as part of a multi-sector Round Table in the province, including the Police of the Republic of Mozambique, which sought suggestions on how to reduce cases, especially among teenagers and young people of school age.
