More than 2,500 young people use drugs in Beira City

Mais de 2500 jovens consomem drogas na cidade da Beira

A study carried out by the National Support Network for Drug Users, called MOZPUD, showed that in the city of Beira there are more than 2,500 young people and teenagers, aged between 15 and 35, who are somehow involved in drug use.

The information was shared by the Director of the Office for Preventing and Combating Drugs, António Semente, adding that the figure is a major concern for the sector.

Semente said that, with the help of various cooperation partners and some religious congregations, activists from the Office for the Prevention and Combat of Drugs have been going to the "bocas de fumo" in the city of Beira on Saturdays for awareness campaigns and civic education for consumers of psychoactive substances, with the aim of awakening them to the real situation they are in, while others distribute soups.

In these campaigns, he revealed that 15 young drug users have been recovered and are currently at the Renewal of Lives Rehabilitation Center in the Matadouro neighborhood, in the administrative post of Inhamízua.
