From February to May, the Assembly of the Republic (AR) received 210 petitions, of which 61 were new and 149 were follow-up petitions. Of these, 49 come from the North, 36 from the Center and 125 from the South.
Speaking this Tuesday (13) in plenary, the chairman of the Complaints and Petitions Committee, Valter Mabjaia, explained that the 210 petitions show the trust that citizens place in Parliament, as a sovereign body that safeguards their rights.
"The Committee on Petitions, Complaints and Claims proposes to take the steps presented in this information because they are pertinent to clarifying the 176 petitions submitted to this great House of the People in the period from May 2024 to April 2025, as well as the follow-up cases," said Mabjaia, adding that for this purpose, the deputies who are members of that group will have to go to the most remote places in the country's provinces, including Maputo city, to meet the petitioners for the materialization.
Madjaia also believes that the members of that committee feel there is a need for specific induction and training on rights and cross-cutting issues, as well as the exchange of experiences with parliaments that do or do not have similar committees.
The source stressed that, following the hearings held on the petitions, complaints and claims, cases were found that concern the administration of justice and under Article 16(6) of Law 26/2014 of September 23, the 8th Committee proposed to the plenary that the Attorney General's Office be notified, requesting information on 17 cases.
