Magistrates advance law on financial independence of courts

Magistrados avançam com lei sobre independência financeira dos tribunais

A proposal for a law on the independence of the courts will be submitted to the government in the next few days by judicial magistrates and public prosecutors in order to resolve the problems of the class.

A committee is already working on finalizing the anti-proposal, according to the newspaper Notícias, quoting the President of the Mozambican Judges Association.

Esmeraldo Matavele told the newspaper that, if accepted, the proposal could solve the magistrates' problems in around 90%.

In the immediate future, the president of the AMJ said that the problem of being included in the Single Salary Scale would be resolved.

He was speaking on the sidelines of the National Conference of Mozambican Judges.
