The Minister of Transport and Communications, Mateus Magala, declined to comment on the departure of Fly Modern Ark (FMA) from the management of Mozambique Airlines (LAM), which had been contracted by the government itself with the guarantee of pulling the company out of the abyss in which it finds itself.
After 18 months, it seems that the project was a failure. The government, which at the time said that FMA could save LAM and make the company sustainable, has failed.
Questioned by journalists on the subject after an event in Maputo City, he rambled on and finally referred explanations about the failed rescue operation to the new Chairman of LAM's Board of Directors, Américo Muchanga.
"I think you've seen, we've made some changes, we've bet on people who we think can leverage the current status of LAM (...) and I would like those questions, which are important, to give him the opportunity to answer," said the minister and added "receive them, have a more detailed and constructive conversation."
In addition, Magala also recommended that LAM's new CEO hold a press conference to talk about his plans to "rescue" the flag carrier and make it attractive.
He went on to say that the government is doing everything it can to improve the condition of TMcel, and is now talking about a period of three to five years for the country to have an attractive company, both for the public and private sectors.
The minister said that so far everything is open, the model could be public, private or a partnership, but the important thing is to first solidify the flag carrier.
