Three people from the same family, a mother and two young children, were charred to death in the early hours of Sunday morning as a result of a road accident on National Road 6, 26 kilometers from the city of Beira, Sofala province.
The crash was caused by speeding and drunk driving. The collision caused the car to crash and overturn, catching fire.
The people who tried to help the victims say it was impossible because they were trapped by their seatbelts. But the public rescue service also arrived late at the scene of the accident.
According to witnesses cited by Radio MozambiqueIn the charred vehicle there were four people, including the husband/father who was taken to a health unit due to smoke inhalation and minor injuries.
"There were three cars. They were leaving Dondo and going downtown. This car that burned, the driver was speeding. He crashed into the car in front of him, then hit a lamppost. When it burned, his wife and children were strapped in. There wasn't much room left to help," said a witness.
However, on the same case, the STV reports two deaths and points to the presence of five people in the charred vehicle.
