The president of the Mozambican Federation of Tourism and Hotels (FEMOTUR), José da Cunha, said in an interview on Sunday that "lodges" and "resorts" are better able to promote events during the upcoming festive season because they are more private, unlike hotels.
Most of these establishments have been receiving reservations mainly from tourists from the southern African region. At the moment, they do not have the same adhesion of Europeans, a fact that may be related to the low vaccination rates against covid-19 in Mozambique.
"Also, the pandemic has affected the world and we notice that, for example, Europe is making offers to promote domestic tourism and we are talking about the same tourist that normally visits Mozambique," he said.
However, the realization of some activities that usually take place during the festive season will depend on the behavior of Mozambicans, namely avoiding excesses so as not to close everything down again.
Even so, José da Cunha guarantees that there will be no dances and big parties. "We believe that this will only happen again in one or two years when vaccination is more comprehensive, which will convey confidence to tourists."
