CFM locomotive derails and injures one person in Malhampsene

A locomotive belonging to the company Portos e Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique derailed and injured one person in the Malhampsene area, in the municipality of Matola, Maputo province, reports Rádio Moçambique.

The accident, which occurred this morning, was the result of heavy rain in the municipality of Matola.

It was a locomotive carrying 39 empty fuel tanks from the kingdom of Eswatini which, when it reached the Malhampsene area, allegedly overturned in the heavy rain.

The heavy rainfall is thought to have contributed to the landslide under the railway line, which caused the infrastructure to move and the locomotive to derail.

The executive-south director of Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique (CFM) said that following the incident, one of the train's security guards got stuck and was later rescued and removed from the locomotive.

Augusto Abudo explains that the agent in question is receiving medical treatment at Maputo Central Hospital. (RM)
