Grey List: Mozambique hopes to get off the FATF list later this year

Mozambique is hoping to be removed from the Financial Action Task Force's (FATF) Grey List later this year, according to the National Coordinator for Policies to Prevent Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing and the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction.

According to Luís Cizerillo, the government is due to present its activity report on July 19 and in September will take part in a "Face to Face" meeting in Brussels on the same subject.

Quoted by NewsHe also said that the decision on whether or not to remain on the Grey List will be taken in October in Paris, France. Depending on the level of partial or full compliance with the recommendations, "the country will be granted a passport".

"Since 2022, the country, in this assessment cycle, according to the FATF, has made meteoric progress, in a positive direction. They have set, as agreed, the deadline for the completion of the remaining activities that are intended to have immediate results 3/4, which have to do with inspections, measures or countermeasures, sectoral risk assessments for the non-financial sector. We also have to fulfill the remaining tasks at the level of immediate result number 6, which has to do with GIFiM [Mozambique's Financial Information Office]," he said, as quoted by Radio Mozambique.

This information was made known during a seminar on Wednesday aimed at raising awareness about the types of crime that led to the country being included on the Grey List. The meeting took place in the city of Beira and was promoted by the Insurance Supervision Institute.
