On Thursday, Costa do Sol beat Ferroviário de Maputo 79-61 to level the play-off series for the final (2-2), which is a best-of-five match. Today, Friday, at 6pm, the two teams meet in the final clash for the title.
The match started evenly, with both teams tactically disciplined, but Ferroviário de Maputo activated their weapons on the 6.75m line and shook Costa do Sol, who ended the first quarter eight points down (25-17).
In the second quarter, according to the newspaper Desafio, the "canarinhos" were still unfocused and showed signs of nervousness, factors that were well taken advantage of by the "locomotives" from the country's capital, who continued to rely on their outside game. Halfway through the second quarter, João Mulungo's team held a 10-point lead (33-23), which grew until half-time (43-36).
However, the Canarinhos made an excellent start after the break, reducing the deficit to one point in the first three minutes and 15 seconds (45-44), when Ermelindo Novela went off injured: a huge headache for coach Mulungo. But it turned out to be nothing more than a scare, and the winger returned to the court.
Costa do Sol took another breath with a "bomb" from Caifaz, taking his team into the lead (45-47). He also sparked his team to create an 11-point lead (45-54) with a minute and 15 seconds to go in the third quarter, forcing João Mulungo to call a time-out, which wasn't enough to change the course of events (47-56).
In the final quarter, the match was interrupted when only 35 seconds had elapsed, due to a blackout on the scoreboard. The problem was only solved 12 minutes later, when play resumed.
The break benefited the locomotives, who cut the deficit to three points. But with Seifane coming on, Costa do Sol improved their approach and regained the lead. It was another bomb from Caifaz (55-67) that brought the pavilion to its knees. The winner was found (61-79).
