The President of the Republic, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, has just laid the foundation stone of the Mozambique-Malawi regional interconnection project, at the Matambo substation, Changara district, in Tete.
This is a project that aims to supply electricity to Malawi, which should begin with the construction of 142 kilometers of line, from the Matambo substation to the border with the neighboring beneficiary country, in Zóbuè.
According to the newspaper Notícias, on his arrival in Matambo, in the company of his Malawian counterpart, Lazarus Chakwera, who is visiting the country, Filipe Nyusi received an explanation from the technicians of Electricidade de Moçambique, about the steps to be taken to realize this project, funded by the World Bank, the Government of Norway, the German Government and the European Union, through KFW, in an amount of 62,423,598.94 dollars, of which 35,249,405 will be from the Mozambican side and 27,174,493.50 from the Malawian side.
For the execution of the work, the contractors Larse & Tourbo were selected for the transmission line, and a Sinohyro-Sepco1 "Joint Ventura" for the work on the Matambo substation.
Speaking on the occasion, the Mozambican Head of State said that this act is truly historic for both countries and for the region, as it will benefit many millions of consumers.
"Energy generates new industries, new technologies, and improves the way of production in various social spheres," he said.
For his part, the president of Malawi said that "without energy we cannot empower our people," recognizing the efforts of President Filipe Nyusi to realize this project.
