The number of passengers transported by Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM), the national flag carrier, fell short of the desired number this year, according to the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Américo Muchanga.
LAM intends to transport around one million passengers by the end of the year.
As he explained in a brief interview with Mozambique TelevisionAt the Maputo International Fair (FACIM) in Marracuene this year, LAM has already carried 330,000 passengers on all its flight services, namely domestic, regional and intercontinental. What was expected, he said, was to have carried around 500,000 passengers by now.
"In the first half of the year, LAM has carried 330,000 passengers. This figure is below what we intend to transport if we project this number to the end of the year. Our goal for all services is to carry one million passengers by the end of the year," he said.
On the other hand, Américo Muchanga acknowledged the dissatisfaction of the company's customers, but said that everything is being done to clean up what is not as desired. But he also assured that LAM intends to continue flying to Lisbon, in Portugal.
"Mozambique Airlines wants to keep the Maputo-Lisbon route. We are working towards this. We want to operate this route in conditions where it is sustainable and can generate operating profit. There is a determination to keep this route. It's a route that we want Mozambicans to trust that LAM will maintain this route and will fly this route with the same quality it has always flown since the beginning, and preparing to improve the quality of the services we offer on this route," he said.
