LAM: Workers' union demands accountability for those involved in embezzlement

LAM: Sindicato dos trabalhadores exige a responsabilização dos envolvidos no desvio de fundos

The workers' union at Mozambique Airlines (LAM) is demanding the punishment of all those involved in the alleged embezzlement of funds at the airline, and regrets that it has not yet been informed of the problem.

After Fly Modern Ark, the entity responsible for restructuring LAM, denounced on Monday a series of misdeeds, including fuel detour that caused losses to the Mozambican airline of around 3.2 million dollarsIn a letter, the workers' union regrets having only heard about the issue in the press.

"The union is the body that by law should be informed in the first instance of all matters related to the worker, and in this matter it has not had this information, neither from Fly Modern Ark - FMA, nor from the general management," reads the letter, quoted by the newspaper "The Country".

Nevertheless, the body whose mission is to defend the interests of LAM workers believes that if there are wrongdoers in the company, they should be punished exemplarily.

"The union is not in favor of, nor does it sponsor, workers and managers from the bottom to the top who squander and misappropriate LAM's assets and encourages the exemplary accountability of any wrongdoer by the competent internal and external bodies," said the union.

It continues: "the union distances itself from these accusations, as it believes that if there is material evidence of one or a group of workers who are alleged saboteurs, they should be identified, investigated and held responsible in accordance with the Labor Law and the company's internal regulations."

It's worth remembering that on Wednesday, LAM's management, through a letter signed by LAM's general director, João Pó Jorge, addressed to the Minister of Transport and Communications, Mateus Magala, denied the accusations of embezzlement, including illegal payments via POS - installed at the Sales Stations - to the personal accounts of members of the airline's management..

In the document, LAM's management says it is distancing itself from the pronouncements made by the new manager, FMA.

In addition to the minister, the letter quoted by AIM was also sent to the President of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Management and Business Participation (IGEPE), Ana Coanai, including the chairman of the Supervisory Board.
