Mozambique Airlines (LAM) has just taken delivery of the second of six aircraft it plans to acquire this year.
According to a Sunday newspaperThe aircraft is already on home soil and is an AIRBUS A319, with the capacity to carry 144 passengers.
The aircraft follows the "Q-400" aircraft acquired by the flag carrier, which intends to add six of its own to its fleet.
As part of the ongoing restructuring, the Mozambican airline led by the chairman of the management committee, Dane Kondic, announced this Tuesday (12), in August, the acquisition of a Bombardier Q400 aircraft, with capacity for 74 passengers.
It was the first aircraft acquired by LAM in the last 18 years. On the occasion, Dane Kondic stressed that it would be the first of many that the company would introduce into its fleet, "to give LAM back the dimension it should have and will have", highlighting the involvement of shareholders and the government in the process.
For several years now, the national carrier has been experiencing operational difficulties linked to a reduced fleet and a lack of investment, with a record of non-fatal incidents attributed by experts to poor maintenance. The crisis led to the almost total suspension of international flights, with the company concentrating on domestic connections.
