KARMOL apoia comunidades piscatórias em Nampula

KARMOL donated, on Wednesday October 26th, several fishing and fish conservation items to 50 members of two fishermen associations from Nacala-Porto and Nacala-a-Velha, in Nampula province. This social responsibility action took place within the scope of support for the promotion of sustainable fishing and the preservation of fishing ecosystems, by replacing harmful practices.

The initiative was directed to the Marinhas de Maiaia Association in Nacala-Porto, which has a total of 22 members, and the Nreni Nimananihe Association in Nacala-a-Velha, with 28 members. Among the donated items are safety vests and fishing nets, colmans, and refrigerated chests.

The materials delivery ceremony took place in Nacala-Porto and was conducted by KARMOL representatives, who highlighted, on the occasion, the importance of good practices in order to ensure sustainability in the development of fishing activity.

The president of the Association Marinhas de Maia, Tuanha Abacar, thanked the support of KARMOL, noting that the items offered "will help fishermen to abandon practices harmful to the environment, such as the use of mosquito nets. "It also gives us the opportunity to catch quality fish, in recommended quantities, and to preserve it in good conditions for marketing," he said.

Ussene Buana, president of the Nreni Nimananihe Association, said that "this type of support encourages fishermen to respect the rules of fishing activity, such as closed seasons, and thus avoid constraints on the growth of the blue economy. We are aware of the great challenges, but with the involvement of companies like KARMOL, we will be able to overcome them," said Buana.

In addition to KARMOL officials, representatives of the company Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) and of the District Services for Economic Activity (SDAE) were present at the event.

With this initiative, KARMOL reinforces its long-term commitment to the communities where it operates, aiming to improve the living conditions of local populations in the Nacala area. This action follows other social responsibility initiatives that KARMOL has been carrying out periodically since it started its operations, providing support to various social and hospital institutions in the region, and also assisting numerous times in cases of natural disasters. KARMOL supplies power to the city of Nacala and the northern region of the country, strengthening the electricity grid of the entire region.
