Judge Arthur Engoron, who on Thursday heard closing arguments in the fraud case against former US President Donald Trump's family business in New York, received a bomb threat at his home on the day of the trial.
The authorities went to Engoron's house to investigate the bomb threat, a day after Trump criticized the judge on Truth Social.
Trump faces a fine and a lifetime ban from working in the real estate sector. The case has been ongoing for months and could damage the former US president's entire business empire.
Engoron ruled that Trump could not speak in court because he had not received an acceptable answer from the former president in which he agreed not to refer to questions other than those put to him in court.
During the hearing on Thursday, Trump barraged the judge, claiming that he is serving his own agenda. The judge demanded that his lawyer control his client.
During a contentious final day of trial in Manhattan, Trump once again argued with Judge Arthur Engoron, who is considering what punishments he will apply after already concluding that Trump's company inflated its assets to get better financial terms. The judge, who will define the case without a jury, said he expects to issue a decision by January 31.
"You have your own agenda. I understand that you can't listen for more than a minute," Trump said in court, denying that he had done anything wrong and repeating allegations of political persecution. (dn, cnn brazil)
