Mozambican judoka Jacira Ferreira has been included in the Continental Quota (CQ), which consists of the 12 best athletes in Africa in the -52kg category, according to the update released by the International Judo Federation (IJF) last Tuesday.
According to Desafio newspaper, Jacira Ferreira entered the shortlist counting on the "hand" of Algerian athlete Amina Blekadi (-63kg), who was on the Continental Quota, but thanks to her third place at the Grand Slam in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, she qualified directly, opening up a place for an athlete on the CQ, the "status" awarded to athletes who have progressed the most.
The fact that the country still has no qualified athletes, either directly or through the benefit of the Continental Quota, led the IJF to award the national judoka a "pass", which will keep her until the end of the "World Championships" and the Open's - which will take place in June in Marrakech (Morocco) and Abidjan (Ivory Coast) - and will give her the right to take part in the Olympic Games.
