A young policeman, aged 33, committed suicide on Wednesday (06) after losing 37,000 meticais in the Aviator game in the 10th district of Metuchira, Nhamatanda district, Sofala province.
According to information obtained by MZNews, the young man's body was found hanging from a tree about three meters up in the woods on the outskirts of the neighborhood and tied around the neck with a Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) belt and military pants, known as "raindrops".
It was a team from the National Criminal Investigation Service, PRM and Health Technicians who identified the body, which was already in an advanced state of decomposition.
The deceased was a native of Namaacha, in Maputo province, and, in Metuchira, he was attending the fourth year of the Esapol public security training course, living in the respective barracks in that neighborhood.
The victim had been reported missing since December 3rd, when he left the barracks at around 4am without saying goodbye. He allegedly played Aviator on one of his colleagues' cell phones.
It should be remembered that this is not the first case of a police officer committing suicide for the same reasons. On November 3 this year, a 26-year-old PRM officer in the Bilene district lost more than 67,000 meticais gambling online. He took out a loan to get the money.
