Researchers participating in the first regional conference on sustainable and integrated management of miombo woodlands advocate the establishment of local management committees for greater conservation of this vegetation.
Natasha Ribeiro, researcher at Eduardo Mondlane University, defended the importance of regeneration of miombo areas.
For her part Judith Kamoto, from Malawi, stressed that in her country local natural resource management committees have been created involving various actors at the community level.
As he classified climate change as a challenge, the preservation of the miombo is important.
For Isilda Nhantumbo, a Mozambican researcher, it is urgent to adopt a long-term vision and that actions are taken immediately.
He added that a forest landscape vision and a professionalization of management should be adopted.
