More than 200 hectares of various crops have been lost in the municipality of Manhiça, Maputo province, due to the floods that have been affecting the region since Saturday.

A total of 1,800 hectares have been affected by the floods resulting from the rise in the flow of the Incomati River, the authorities said.

The councillor for Economic Activities in the municipality of Manhiça, José Manusse, was quoted by Rádio Mocambique as saying that the problem is affecting more than 370 producer families who need assistance with seeds and other support in order to cope with the second agricultural season.

"What's happening at the moment is that the flow of the Incomati River is rising and as a result the water is overflowing and entering the fields," he said.
