The Maputo/KaTembe bridge viaduct, which gives access to Avenida da Organização das Nações Unidas (ONU), in the city of Maputo, has just been closed due to cracks that compromise the safety of users and put the structure at risk, writes Notícias online.
Afterwards, a fence was put up and there are signs of work in progress.
The portal also reports that a source from the bridge's concessionaire, Rede Viária de Moçambique (REVIMO), said that the ban was due to a landslide caused by work carried out by a private company that led to the partial collapse of one of the pillars.
The problem has already been identified and work is underway to resolve it. Access has been closed as a precaution and traffic has been directed to other viaducts.
The infrastructure may be restricted for three months, during which time corrective work will be carried out. (Image:Notícioas)
