The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, on Sunday expressed his discomfort with France's appeal to its citizens not to travel to Cabo Delgado, in the north of the country, due to the worsening of terrorist attacks, and even spoke of an agenda.
Quoted by Correio da ManhãThe Mozambican head of state said that it was to be expected that the French authorities, given their friendship with Mozambique, would decide to support and work with Maputo to combat the terrorist threat.
Speaking on the sidelines of the African Union summit taking place in Addis Ababa, Nyusi said that "every country has an agenda and the agenda is aligned and integrated. There must be some reason why a communiqué was made".
The French Embassy in Mozambique is appealing to French citizens not to travel to the cities of Mocímboa da Praia, Pemba and Palma, in Cabo Delgado, due to the "terrorist threat".
“Due to the presence of a terrorist and kidnapping threat in the cities of Mocímboa da Praia, Pemba and Palma, it is strongly recommended not to travel to these cities, as well as to travel on the roads connecting these locations", reads a message to travelers published last Wednesday by the French Embassy in Mozambique.
In the same reaction, Nyusi said that the statement comes at a time when the Mozambican government is "working hard to prove to the world that Mozambique is committed to its partners in the fight against terrorism".
