The Municipal Council of Vila da Namaacha set up a mobile toll collection point extraordinarily on the day of the Pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Fátima, on Friday (12).
Collecting the money were council employees dressed in green vests. And, depending on the characteristics of the drivers, the collectors randomly determined the amount to be paid, between 50.00 and 100.00 meticais.
A video of the illicit collection to which MZNews had access shows around 15 municipal agents acting on motorists on a road without the minimum conditions of passability. All the vehicles, both private and semi-collective, were going in one direction.
According to the NewsThe faithful tried to find out the reason for the city's opportunism, and in response the agents said "pay up and then go and complain".
During the Eucharist, the administrator of Namaacha, Carlos Mourinho, apologized to the faithful for what had happened and promised that it would never happen there again.
It's worth remembering that the Namaacha Town Council is facing a lack of money to pay its workers' salaries and they have repeatedly paralyzed the council's activities. Until January of this year, employees had not received their salaries for six months.
