More than 20,000 national observers have been registered to monitor the voting process for the sixth local elections, which will take place tomorrow, October 11, across the country.
"So far, we have 20,311 national observers and 80 international observers," said Regina Matsinhe, spokesperson for STAE, during a press conference in Maputo.
The spokeswoman also said that 866 national and two international journalists had been accredited to follow the electoral process.
In terms of manpower for the process, the STAE says it has hired 47,495 polling station staff, who will have to attend the 6,785 polling stations across the country, each made up of seven members, including a president, a vice-president, a secretary and four scrutineers.
Of the scrutineers, three come from political parties with seats in the Assembly of the Republic, namely Frelimo, Renamo and MDM, added Regina Matsinhe.
For security reasons, the source explained that air transport will be allocated to places that are difficult to access, such as Ibo Island, Mocímboa da Praia and Mueda, in Cabo delgado province.
For the sixth local elections, more than 8.7 million voters have registered to vote across the country, according to data from the National Electoral Commission.
