Inhambane seeks strategies to increase aquaculture

The Inhambane provincial government will implement a package of additional measures aimed at raising the level of production and productivity, in the aquaculture branch, which last year recorded a drop of about 100%, compared to 2019.

The poor availability of inputs, feed and fingerlings, scarce aquaculture extension services, poor promotion of the value chain, the drought that reduces installed capacity in machongos, for the construction of earthen ponds, and poor intervention models in aquaculture, are pointed out as factors that have slowed production and productivity.

To take advantage of the enormous potential that exists for the captive fish production technique, actions have already been identified that, if well implemented, can change the current scenario.

The provincial director of Agriculture and Fisheries of Inhambane, Francisco Feijão, considers a new partnership with the company Leaders Development, Lda. in the district of Inharrime, as a way out for the recovery of production levels, in a province that, until 2019, was prominent in the country.
