The National Institute for Disaster Management (INGD) announced on Wednesday that several partners have made their contributions to dealing with the current rainy season and the flood situation.
During the Risk and Disaster Assessment Coordinating Council to assess the country's emergency situation, INGD President Luísa Meque told the press that they had discussed the shortfall in the 2022/2023 Contingency Plan.
"We also discussed the shortfall of 7.4 billion meticais in the Contingency Plan to deal with the current rainy season. We continue to mobilize funds to meet this amount and various partners have made their contributions," he explained, highlighting the support of the World Food Programme (WFP), UNICEF and the United Nations.
According to the President of INGD, the partners did not give their contributions in figures, but in articles. For example, UNICEF has said it will donate school tents for children who have been left without schools.
The other partners didn't quantify their support either, but they all contributed towards helping to alleviate the situation the country is experiencing. Luísa Meque said that the priority areas were education, infrastructure, health and agriculture.
"Right now, our big challenge is to respond in the shortest possible time to the damage caused." According to the President of the INGD, since the start of the heavy rains in the south of the country, 10 deaths have been recorded and around 43,426 people have been affected. (Letter)
