INGD prepares for rainy and cyclonic season in Cabo Delgado

The National Institute for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (INGD) is preparing to assist the population in need in Cabo Delgado, in view of the forecast of flooding in the province's main river basins.

Although the 2021/2023 rainy and cyclonic season contingency plan foresees a shortage of rainfall in October, November and December, there is a need to redouble precautionary measures in order to avoid the loss of human life and/or property during the peak rainy season.

The INGD delegate in Cabo Delgado, Lizete Manuel, who provided the information, pointed to the Messalo, Megarruma and Montepuez basins as rivers that could rise to alert levels as a result of the excessive rainfall.

Lizete Manuel assured that the province already has stocks to respond to the 2022/2023 rainy and cyclonic season, which could affect around 55,000 people in Cabo Delgado province.
