INGD: Delegado detido por desvio de alimentos diz que polícia equivocou-se

The delegate of the National Institute for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (INGD), Friday Taibo, who was arrested in Niassa for allegedly embezzling a number of food products, says that there was a misunderstanding on the part of the police and denied that it was theft.

According to the detainee, quoted by the Moz Clash website, the products had been loaded in the Mandimba district and were destined for Chimbonila, to respond to an emergency of families in a difficult situation.

He also explained that the car was on its way to the warehouse in the airport area in the city of Lichinga, but during the journey the car had problems, so the driver asked for help and was told to turn to a friend of his who lives near the area where the car had mechanical problems.

The embezzled goods included sacks of rice, corn flour, cooking oil and tarpaulins and were destined for the victims of Cyclone Freddy. The arrest took place last Thursday night.
