INGD starts coercive removal of families from flood-prone areas in Maputo

The National Institute for Disaster Risk Management (INGD) will soon proceed with the forced removal of families living in flood-prone areas in Maputo province.

Recently about two thousand households in the municipality of Matola and Marracuene had their houses flooded and agricultural crops destroyed due to the rains that have been registered in the last few days in Maputo province.

The INGD delegate in Maputo province, Amir Abdula, told Rádio Moçambique that there is already a legal instrument for the compulsory withdrawal of populations that insist on staying in risky places during this rainy season.
