Humanitarian assistance began today, Friday, for about five thousand families displaced by terrorism in the districts of Eráti and Memba, in the province of Nampula, in a process carried out by the National Institute for Natural Disaster Management (INGD).
Timóteo Viagem, from INGD, explained that this is a coordinated action between this institution and the humanitarian response agencies, such as the World Food Program (WFP), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The humanitarian assistance consists of the distribution to families of various food products and other essential goods such as rice, beans, oil, blankets, mats, tarpaulins, among others. Timóteo Viagem said that the lists of displaced people are being improved for subsequent steps, taking into account that the numbers are constantly being updated.
The INGD has so far counted 3,672 families in the district of Eráti, corresponding to 18,772 people, of whom 15,669 are refugees in the village of Namapa and the rest in the administrative post of Alua, in Namapa district. In Memba district, 1,197 families are registered, corresponding to 6,224 people, who fled the attack carried out by terrorists in the administrative post of Chipene and scattered in different communities of that region.
The terrorists' attack on communities in the Eráti and Memba districts was about a month ago.
