Business Strength Index drops two percentage points in the 1st quarter

The business robustness index registered a drop this year compared to the last quarter of last year, from 29 to 27%.

The president of the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA), Agostinho Vuma, said that the combined effects of natural disasters, the increase in inflation, and the impact of the Russia-Ukraine conflict are the main causes of this decrease.

"The unemployment trend index also evidenced the slowdown, going from 125.9 to 115, or a decrease of 10.9 points, which reveals on the one hand that obtaining employment in Mozambique tended to be relatively more difficult in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the fourth half of 2021," he said.

The president of the Confederation of Mozambique's Economic Associations, Agostinho Vuma, spoke on Wednesday in the city of Beira, in Sofala, at the opening of the eighth edition of the Economic Briefing.
