INCM grants license to Corre for universal postal services

INCM concede licença a Corre para serviços postais universais

On Monday, the National Communications Institute of Mozambique (INCM), the country's sector regulator, formally handed over the Universal Postal Operator (SPU) license to Correios Expresso de Moçambique (CORRE), an operation that comes after the government decided to do so last May.

"The delivery of this license stems from the need to fill the legal vacuum resulting from the extinction, in 2021, of the company Correios de Moçambique, which was the provider of the Universal Postal Service (SPU) throughout the national territory, prioritizing economically unviable locations," says the note from the communications regulatory authority, quoted by the Savannah newspaper.

Speaking at the ceremony to hand over the license, the chairman of the INCM's Board of Directors, Helena Fernandes, said that this award "represents a significant milestone in the postal sector and is aimed at providing inclusive services throughout the country and internationally".

For his part, Raimundo Matule, chairman of Corre's Board of Directors, said that being awarded the Universal Postal Operator license was a challenge for the company.

CORRE is owned by Empresa Nacional de Correios de Moçambique and Correios de Portugal.
