The National Meteorological Institute (INAM) announced on Tuesday that the low pressure system that formed northeast of the island of Madagascar, in the southwest Indian Ocean basin, has evolved into a Tropical Disturbance in the last few hours.
According to INAM, the phenomenon has the potential to reach the Moderate Tropical Storm stage today, January 24 (Wednesday), near the east coast of Madagascar.
"However, it does not yet constitute a danger to the Mozambique Channel or the continental part of our country," says a statement from INAM.
Meanwhile, INAM adds that it is continuing to monitor the evolution of this system and calls on the population to continue to follow the meteorological information and warnings issued by the competent national authorities.
