The National Meteorological Institute (INAM) forecasts continued significant rainfall of 30 to 50 millimetres and sporadically more than 50 millimetres in 24 hours, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.
The persistent atmospheric precipitation that has been affecting the central and southern regions of Mozambique since dawn on Tuesday (11) will occur in the central provinces of Tete, in the districts of Doa, Changara, Moatize, Marara, Cahora Bassa, Chiuta, Tsangano, Angónia, Macanga and the city of Tete; in almost all the districts of the provinces of Manica and Sofala; and in almost all the districts of the provinces of Gaza and Inhambane, in the southern region.
"Maputo province will continue to experience intermittent moderate rainfall, with a slowdown expected from the second half of today, Wednesday (12)," says a statement from INAM.
The note also states that, on the other hand, the north of the country is still under the influence of the Intertropical Convergence Zone which, although temporarily weakened, could introduce periods of sudden and scattered precipitation over this region.
To this end, the organization recommends taking precautionary and safety measures in the face of rain, thunderstorms and wind gusts.
