INAM: Mozambique on alert for Cyclone Djoungou and two cold fronts in the coming days

Mozambique is on alert due to the evolution of tropical cyclone Djoungou, which has formed and is intensifying over Madagascar. Even so, the National Meteorological Institute (INAM) guarantees that it is monitoring the situation.

"At the moment, it has reached the stage of a tropical cyclone and within 24 hours it will reach the stage of an intense tropical cyclone. Faced with this phenomenon, we must continue to monitor the systems," says Pedro Matumane of INAM, quoted by RFI, who also warns of the formation of two other cold fronts in the coming days.

"To the northeast of Madagascar, these systems interacting with the intertropical convergence zone will bring a lot of rain to our channel (Mozambique Channel) as well as the continental part. We're talking much more about the northern region, where the rain could be light rain, locally moderate to heavy with thunderstorms," added Matumane.

As Mozambique enters the peak of the rainy season, INAM calls on citizens to follow the guidelines and information disseminated by the national institute for disaster risk management, as well as the national directorate for water resources management.
