A low-pressure atmospheric system with the potential to reach the Tropical Storm stage from Friday (31st) onwards has been influencing the weather in the South West Indian Basin east of Madagascar since yesterday, the National Meteorological Institute (INAM) announced this afternoon..
Despite being in the corridor that serves as a route to Mozambique, the storm in sight "does not yet constitute a danger to the Mozambique channel and our country", reports INAM, which says it is "monitoring the evolution of these systems".
Meanwhile, the central and northern regions of the country, namely the provinces of Cabo Delgado, Niassa, Nampula, Zambézia and Tete, continue to experience weak to moderate rainfall as a result of another low-pressure system that has been influencing the weather since the beginning of the week.
The system, which according to INAM, quoted by Terra MagazineThe storm, which formed in the Mozambique Channel, "evolved into the Tropical Storm stage, christened 'Elvis' and moved into the subtropics".
