INAE incinerates illegal tobacco worth 225 thousand meticais

INAE incinera tabaco ilegal avaliado em 225 mil meticais

This week, the National Inspectorate for Economic Activities (INAE) incinerated several illegal tobacco products valued at around 225,000 meticais. These were cigarettes, cigars, hookahs and electronic cigarettes that were incinerated in an action that, according to the authorities, reaffirms the commitment to public health and consumer protection.

Speaking to the press, INAE spokesman Tomás Timba stressed the importance of the action to safeguard consumer rights. "All products sold in the country must comply with clear rules, including labeling in Portuguese, so that consumers know exactly what they are consuming. Many of the products incinerated today did not respect this rule, putting the health of those who consume them at risk," said Timba.

According to the spokesman, the products seized came from various contexts, including prom parties, convenience stores and even schools.

"It's worrying to see that social centers of educational institutions have been used as points of sale for tobacco and alcoholic beverages. We need a joint effort from society - schools, families and traders - to ensure that these products don't reach our young people," Timba appealed.
