IGEPE wants to "intervene" in Tmcel and move forward with payment of salary arrears

The Instituto de Gestão de Participações do Estado (IGEPE), the main shareholder in Moçambique-Telecom, SA, (Tmcel), is going to "intervene" in this national telecommunications company as a way of helping it to overcome its current constraints, including the delay in paying workers' salaries, as well as helping with its human resizing.

This is one of the conclusions of a meeting held yesterday between the IGEPE and Tmcel.

According to the newspaper Notícias, an IGEP source said that the first measure of this "intervention" is to ensure the payment of workers' salaries for February and March, the delay in which had already led to some demonstrations by workers in front of the headquarters in Maputo City.

Without going into details about this action, the source indicated that the IGEPE will work regularly with the current Board of Directors in the management of the company, with regard to the collection of debts by state companies, which so far amount to more than one billion meticais.
