Huawei Vice President Karl Song said that Huawei Group is interested in supporting digital transformation in Africa. The continent could benefit from 5G, Cloud and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
"Huawei Group, committed to supporting digital transformation in Africa, works with over 1,500 partners on the continent. [In addition to these, there are] more than a hundred with whom we collaborate to launch more than thirty solutions for various sectors: government, energy, transportation, health" he said.
Song presented this view during the Huawei Connect 2021 conference, organized recently under the theme "Dive into Digital." At the time, the source noted that "digital transformation has been accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic. Global network traffic has increased by 50% in recent years. Demand for home broadband has also grown rapidly by 20% by 2020."
This data is the reason for engaging and deepening the practical applications of technologies like 5G, Cloud, AI across all sectors. As they are applied their versatility, efficiencies, and abilities to be resilient as economies recover will be seen.
The group's vice president of corporate communications explained that with more than 453 million Internet users, Africa is now a key player in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). The current crisis and the Fourth Industrial Revolution should be seen as a good opportunity to invent new industrial and service modalities. In this prism lies an opportunity to be inspired and to project a new world with different paradigms.
In terms of energy efficiency, the company justified its renewed investment by the need to reconcile economic growth with environmental protection.
"We believe that the digital economy should be a green economy. ICT can play a very important role in that [...]. That is why Huawei's products will be 2.7 times more energy efficient in 2025 than in 2019," explained Karl Song.
Finally, the vice president recalled Huawei's commitment to the continent. "We have been present in Africa for over 20 years and are committed to promoting the development of local communities. We help improve connectivity in 28 African countries, benefiting 630 million people. Huawei employs over 6,000 people in Africa, 81% of whom are local," he concluded.
