Man arrested with more than a ton of child pornography

Homem detido com mais de uma tonelada de pornografia infantil

A man was arrested in Ocala, in the US state of Florida, after the authorities seized more than 220,000 printed images of child pornography in boxes weighing 1,180 kilos from his home. The suspect kept the photographic material in boxes or stacked in his bedroom.

Officers also seized a printer "showing signs of heavy use", a computer and a digital image storage device. The man, identified as Paul Zittel, 72, now faces "25 counts of possession of child pornography", the Marino County Sheriff's Office said on Monday, as quoted by RTP. Zittel was taken into custody and transferred to a county jail, with bail set at 250,000 dollars (about 237,000 euros).

The investigation began in January, when a detective received information about the presence on the Internet of several files containing "pedophile material".

During the house search, detectives "located numerous printed photographs of child pornography that were arranged in large piles and boxes throughout the bedroom," the sheriff's office said in a statement.
