Today (Saturday), the Franco-Mozambican Cultural Center is hosting the 7th edition of the Jazz no Franco Festival, which will take place on the Garden and Sala Grande stages.
The event takes place on the occasion of International Jazz Day, which is celebrated on April 30.
Mozambican artists João Cabral and Stélio Mondlane's Project Evolution, as well as Bokani Dyer Trio (South Africa) and Hugo Corbin Quartet (France) have been invited to this edition.
The event will also feature a performance by Mozambican DJ Dub Rui.
International Jazz Day was created by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and announced by pianist and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Herbie Hancock. It was celebrated for the first time in 2012.
The commemoration aims to remember the importance of this musical genre and its contribution to promoting different cultures and peoples throughout history. Jazz is associated with the struggle for freedom and the abolition of slavery.
To promote International Jazz Day, various jazz concerts are being held around the world, promoted by schools, groups and musicians, with the aim of introducing people to this musical genre. Jazz is a musical style that appeals to creativity and improvisation. (Texto Notícias)
