Reduced the HIV positivity rate in health counseling and testing services to 5% between 2020 and 2024 in Maputo province.
Information published by the Maputo Provincial Health Service indicates that the rate went from 7% in 2020 to 2% in the third quarter of 2024.
"This figure reflects advances in the multisectoral response to HIV in the region," reads the document from those services, which is quoted by "Notícias."
According to the source, the same document states that around 260,000 people are living with HIV in Maputo province, 248,000 of them adults and 12,000 children.
"The province currently has 195,853 adults and 10,278 children on antiretroviral treatment. The figures indicate a continuous effort by the health sector to guarantee access to treatment and improve the quality of life of people affected by HIV," the statement said.
The viral suppression rate in the province reached 96%, an important milestone for preventing transmission of the virus and improving the health of patients.
"The result is due to the expansion of antiretroviral treatment services, which are available in 19 of the 22 health facilities in the province's eight districts," he said.
Health authorities called for continued involvement of the community, religious leaders and other stakeholders in the HIV response.
