Nine districts in the central region of the country could be affected by floods resulting from discharges from the HCB dam in Tete, starting today, announced an official source quoted by Rádio Moçambique.
These are the districts of Doa, Mutarara, in Tete province; Tambara in Manica; Chemba, Caia, Marromeu in Sofala, as well as Mopeia, Luabo and Chinde, in Zambezia.
Eurico Saize, director of the Zambezi basin management division, said that the situation will affect the Lower Zambezi region, which as of today will receive a volume of water of three thousand five hundred cubic meters per second from the HCB reservoir.
The source also explained that the discharges are aimed at safeguarding the capacity to accommodate the volume of water coming from neighboring countries.
