A low pressure system over the Mozambique Channel evolved today into a Severe Tropical Storm and was named "Álvaro".
According to a warning issued by the National Institute of Meteorology (INAM), the weather system is moving towards the coast of Madagascar at a speed of 17 kilometers per hour, with winds and gusts of 95 to 130 kilometers per hour, but without posing a danger to the mainland of Mozambique.
The INAM note also states that the Mozambique Channel region between the 16th and 24th parallels south will continue to be affected by strong winds and rains as well as severe thunderstorms.
