The European Commission announced on Monday that it had suspended financial aid to the Palestinians following the attacks carried out by Hamas against Israel since Saturday.
"The scale of terror and brutality against Israel and its people is a turning point. As the largest donor to the Palestinians, the European Commission will put development projects under review, for a total of 691 million euros," detailed the European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
This means that "all payments will be suspended immediately", "all projects will be reassessed" and "all new budget proposals, including for 2023, will be postponed". "We are going to make an assessment of the entire [aid] portfolio," he assured.
"The foundations for peace, tolerance and coexistence have to be discussed. Incitement to hatred, violence and the glorification of terror have poisoned the minds of many people. We need to act now," he added.
Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Monday that it had killed "several militants" from Lebanon.
However, the Islamist group Hezbollah, which controls the border area in Lebanon, denied that its militants had entered Israel, reports Reuters.
